About us

Bologna, 3 April 2012 – In the year of the centenary of the birth of Poerio Carpigiani, founder with his brother Bruto (the Bolognese engineer who patented the famous Autogelatiera, recognized as one of the 34 fundamental inventions of the 20th century) of the Carpigiani company, the Bruto and Poerio Foundation was established and recognized. Its mission is to spread the culture of fresh gelato throughout the world, an Italian artisanal product based on a long and illustrious culinary tradition. The Foundation is inspired by and honors the work of Bruto and Poerio Carpigiani, the two Bolognese who helped spread the technology, culture and business of artisanal gelato throughout the world, and intends to ensure that their memory endures over time, a harbinger of progress, innovation and new “cultural conquests”.
What are the goals of the Bruto and Poerio Carpigiani Foundation, the first in the world dedicated to artisanal gelato?

Our vision

  • Protect the know-how of creating high-quality artisanal products that represent the excellence and creativity of our country in the world, study and promote the development and knowledge of food culture, working to spread foods with precious nutritional and sociological value.
  • Support education in the study and protection of artisanal food heritage, in order to preserve characteristics and typicality.
  • Follow the technological development in its progress that allows to increase the safety and hygiene of the ice cream food.

To pursue these goals, the Foundation intends to promote, among others, the following activities: supporting, financing, promoting and organizing the Gelato Museum project, an innovative structure dedicated to the study, documentation and transmission of the history, values and culture of artisanal gelato, a fresh and high-quality food, which represents the excellence and creativity of our country in the world; organizing courses, seminars and training workshops; promoting activities, projects, events, conferences and courses, endowed with prizes or scholarships when necessary, aimed at enhancing technological development that aims for excellence, and improving the quality of work of gelato operators, as well as the safety and hygiene of this food.

The projects of the Bruto and Carpigiani Foundation

Since 2012, the Carpigiani Foundation has been involved in the development of the Network of Solidarity Gelato and Pastry Shops in Italy and worldwide, such as the inauguration in 2018 of the first Dolce Positivo sales point in Vigevano with the aim of offering concrete opportunities for work with people with intellectual disabilities or as projects in Africa and more precisely in Mozambique with the realization of Cremedoce de Fronteira in the tourist area of Maputo and the future goal to open an additional sales point in Congo. These projects, in collaboration with Agape ONLUS,  are aimed at creating a specialized training course dedicated to pastry and gelato that allows social and professional integration. These are just two examples of what we have achieved. Our mission continues and there are many other projects in the making, ready to continue our journey towards a more sweet and supportive future.
